Karlyn Benson has extensive experience working in museums and galleries. She was the owner/director of Matteawan Gallery in Beacon, NY from 2013 to 2018. At Matteawan Gallery, she curated 56 exhibitions and worked with over 70 artists. Karlyn will continue to curate exhibitions under the name Matteawan Projects. She curated the exhibition Chemistry: Explorations in Abstract Photography at the Garrison Art Center in 2016 and has been a juror at the Woodstock Artists Association and Museum (WAAM), Woodstock, NY, and the Barrett Art Center, Poughkeepsie, NY. She is currently on the Board of Directors of BeaconArts where she serves as Co-President.
Prior to Matteawan Gallery Karlyn worked in the Registrar Department at the Museum of Modern Art in New York for six years and was the gallery manager at Candace Perich Gallery in Katonah, NY. She also worked as an Executive Assistant at AEA Consulting, a cultural consulting firm in Beacon, NY.
Karlyn received an MA in Art History from the University of Texas, Austin and a BA in Art History from SUNY Purchase, Purchase, NY. She is passionate about contemporary art and a frequent visitor to museums and galleries. She has lived in the Hudson Valley since 2003.
